Loose Women branded ‘back in the dark ages’ over ‘abysmal’ Love Island Maura comments

The Loose Women cast were discussing Maura Higgins and Tom Walker’s Love Island showdown on the ITV programme today.

And what they said didn’t go down well with many viewers.

The issue between Tom and Maura arose after she won a night in the Hideaway.

The 28-year-old Irish beauty was allowed to pick a guy to go in there with her, and she chose Tom.

However, the brunette later retracted her offer when Tom made a crude comment to her in front of the other Love Island boys, saying he wondered if she was “all mouth”.

Many viewers were outraged over the comment, however some said they didn’t see a problem with it as Maura has been open to talking about sex in the villa.

The Loose Women panel, which today consisted of Coleen Nolan, Brenda Edwards, Kelle Bryan and Janet Street-Porter, seemed to agree with the latter view.

Kelle commented: “I just think Maura’s set herself up, she came in with such aggressive, fiery language, which we loved… she seemed like she was really up for it without being… and really confident.

“For me it’s like come on woman, I think she set herself up.

Meanwhile Coleen added: “She [Maura] said she wanted a gentleman, but she should have acted differently.”

The star also said it was “confusing” for boys when women wear revealing outfits.

Some viewers were incensed over the comments online.

One Twitter user fumed: “They’re actually defending ‘lad culture’ and attacking Maura on Loose Women? This chat show is abysmal.”

While another added: “Men misinterpreting women now because of how we dress? Is this the dark ages?

A third chimed in: “These women on Loose Women defending Tom on Love Island is everything that’s wrong with women of their generation. Yet again blaming women for the way men treat us like property.”

While a fourth added: “Oh shut up Coleen. ‘It’s so confusing for boys’ – what’s so confusing about not being an absolute a******e? This chat show sets feminism back 20 years.”

Janet admitted she hadn’t even watched the show, though, with another viewers seemed to agree with.

They exclaimed online: “I’m with Janet on Love Island. It’s a load of rubbish. Why it’s discussed on every other show is beyond me.”

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12:30pm.
