Loose Women’s Janet angers fans by saying Mr Men books ‘should be gender fluid’

Loose Women panellists got stuck into debating the Mr Men books today and things quickly got heated.

The debate came after the books hit headlines yesterday after student Shelby Judge, 24, accused one of the books of "mansplaining".

In the story Mr Clever explains the Forth Bridge to Little Miss Curious and Shelby accused the books of "telling girls" that "girls, you need to be stupid and men, it’s your job to explain things".

The Loose Women panel quickly got stuck into a debate, with Denise Welch quickly rushing to defend the series.

Denise said: "I just think this is all going a little bit too far now."

Whereas, Janet-Street Porter kicked off her opinion by slating the books for not being "proper reading material".

She moaned: "When I was a kid I read proper books, not this," she said as she flung one of the books down on the panel.

Continuing the debate, Denise added: "I read these books to my kids and my two boys are not sexiest at all."

But Janet, who confessed she has never read the books, disagreed and said the books "need to be updated" to "fit in with modern times".

She said: "These books need to update themselves and be more gender fluid."

The rest of the panel sighed in disagreement as a clearly annoyed Coleen Nolan urged the chat to move on from the Mr Men topic.

Viewers were also left irritated with Janet's opinion, with many rushing to Twitter to complain.

One wrote: "Ridiculous comments Janet."

A second said: "Regarding the Mr Men subject, Janet states how they should be more fluid is she forgetting she is on a program called Loose Women which is presented exclusively by Women? What about men?"

A third tweeted: "Oh Janet just shut up."

Loose Women continues tomorrow at 12.30pm on ITV.
