Love Island may help budding singles on their journey to finding love, but since the show first aired in 2015 viewers have seen devastation, heartbreak and most of all… drama.
They have witnessed islanders make the decision to leave following a heartbreaking ordeal, and have also seen people get kicked out of the show for various reasons.
From one-episode wonder Malia Arkian's shock outburst to Amy Hart's heartbreak over Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins, there have been plenty of early departures.
As Love Island returns for the 2021 series, Daily Star has taken a walk down memory lane for look back at some of the most shocking exits we have witnessed.
Amy's time on Love Island was almost perfect, until Casa Amor did what it's designed to do and opened an extremely large can of worms.
The couple who had been together from the minute Curtis Pritchard walked into the villa, was over in a second as Curtis turned his head during Casa Amor.
Although the pair tried to work things out, Amy's journey in Love Island came to an abrupt end once she realised that Maura Higgins had the hots for the ballroom dancer.
In a teary exchange, Amy explained to her fellow contestants that she wouldn't find love again on the show and ultimately, left the villa.
Sherif appeared on the same series of Love Island as Amy, but his journey was not nearly as long.
As he was getting to know Anna Vakili, shock hit when it was announced that Sherif had been kicked out of the show for "breaking the villa rules".
It was later revealed to The Sun on Sunday that Sherif kicked Molly-Mae in the groin area by accident, but he said that the pair laughed about it.
He added: "I turned to Tommy Fury and said, 'That was a c*** punt."
Sophie Gradon quit Love Island after admitting she missed her ex Tom Powell, who had been dumped from the villa, shortly after she had coupled up with newcomer Katie Salmon in the show's first ever same-sex couple.
Once Sophie left the show, she reunited with Tom, who she met at the start of the series, and the pair dated until their split in November 2016.
In June 2018, Sophie sadly died aged 32.
Ollie was hit with controversy before he even entered the villa after photographs of him with hunted animals surfaced online.
Mere days into the show, Ollie chose to leave because he still loved someone else and he wanted to "follow his heart".
As he left the villa, the former contestant told The Sun that he was shocked at the way he was portrayed on TV and said that the "grumpy, moody bloke" people saw on TV isn't who he is.
Malia was kicked out of Love Island after an argument with Kady McDermott which got out of hand, with shoves dished out and drinks being spilt.
Her time was short and not very sweet as Malia entered and exited the show all in the same night.
Speaking to Closer about her exit three years on, Malia said: "Coming home to the UK was horrible – I was trolled relentlessly and people threw drinks at me on nights out.
"Love Island is huge, and it’s a platform for a great career, but my chance of an amazing life was destroyed in a few hours. Luckily I had a really strong support system around me."
Niall left the reality show in the early days during the 2018 series, which producers cited as "personal reasons".
Since then, the former contestant has opened up about his experience on TikTok, explaining to his 59,000 followers that he was suffering from a stress-induced psychosis.
Niall has also said that his Asperger's was the reason he left the villa, he said in a TikTok: "I ended up watching Love Island in a psychiatric hospital in London.
"What I later found out is that I had stress-induced psychosis… Essentially what it is, you get so overwhelmed that you lose touch with reality."
He later said that he was being open about his experience to show how good people get at masking what they're going through and he reminded people that checking up on others "really helps".
Zara Holland had a challenging time in the Love Island villa – particularly after finding out that she had lost her Miss GB crown after sleeping with fellow contestant Alex Bowen.
She was determined to stay, but days after finding out about her title being taken away, Zara learned that her mother had fallen ill.
Immediately Zara chose to leave the villa in order to be at home and supporting her mum.
Rykard certainly shocked not only his fellow contestants, but Caroline Flack too, when Rachel Fenton was savagely dumped from the villa.
As it was announced that Rachel would be leaving, Rykard made the swift decision to leave with her, though they were off to a rocky start, with Caroline breaking the news to Rachel that he had secretly slept with Olivia while she was in the next bed.
The pair did work through their differences and were dating after the show before they announced their split 18 months later.
Samira spent a lot of her time in the villa feeling fairly unlucky in love, but when Frankie Foster came in, she was smitten.
He was soon eliminated from the show, and Samira chose to go home shortly after to see what could happen between the pair.
Shortly after the pair reunited on the outside, they parted ways, confirming their split in August 2018 – just one month after Samira left.
