Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez battled it out in the dance-off against Caroline Quentin and Johannes Radebe last weekend. After Strictly Come Dancing fans failed to give them enough votes, it was up to the judges to save their favourite and Maisie made it through to week seven of the competition. While she was elated at being given another chance to dance, the young actress has spoken out on the guilt she feels over sending Caroline home.

During an interview on This Morning via a video link with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Maisie was asked how she felt.

What’s your take on it, because I know it upset you?” Phillip asked.

Maisie said: “I was more upset that I felt guilty because I was the one who ended Max and Dianne’s journey on the show – and the same with Caroline.

“I think that was what hit me more.

“But regards to the bottom two, it can happen to anyone, that’s the whole point of the show, you haven no idea who is going to be in the bottom two,” she added.

Week one it was hard because nobody wants it to be them.”

Holly added: “You must just think though ‘what have I got to do, what do I need to do?’ because the ability is there.”

She then explained how Alesha Dixon had been in the dance-off a few times before lifting the Glitterball Trophy.

“So this does happen and it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road, does it?” The presenter continued.

“Absolutely,” Maisie responded.

“So I’m not going to let it get to me, we’re still here and we’re going to power through.”

This weekend, Maisie and Gorka will take to the dance floor and perform the Quickstep to When You’re Smiling.

Last week’s Salsa earned them their highest judges score – 27 points.

Can they score higher this weekend?

As for their chances of lifting the Glitterball Trophy next month, Coral bookmakers put her at 10-1.

It seems she will have to stave off Bill Bailey, as he is tipped to win at 4-6.

HRVY – who is also a firm favourite with viewers – sits at 4-1.

And after last week’s disastrous Jive, she sits third at 8-1.

Who will be the 2020 champion?
