Michael McIntyre’s hit game show The Wheel is set to return for a second series.
Bosses at the BBC are in “advanced talks” about recommissioning it and a deal could be signed within days.
An insider said: “The top brass at the Beeb absolutely love this show. They have been amazed by the reaction it has been getting from viewers.
“After some discussions, everyone agreed they want more. Ordering
another series is a no-brainer.
“Everything is in place for it to be signed and sealed, it is just a case of ticking some boxes and getting signatures.”
The Wheel has been a ratings sensation since launching last month. It has been getting more than five million viewers on Saturday nights, which means it is already one of the BBC’s biggest shows.
Our insider added: “It is extremely difficult for TV execs to find light entertainment formats that do well.
“The BBC has had quite a few decent formats flop in recent years, so when one does this well they would be mad to let it go.
“It is already getting as many viewers as Britain’s Got Talent and at a fraction of the cost.”
People love Michael so much it feels like he could sit there reading the phone book and millions would still watch. Do not be surprised if that actually happens.
