The Professor (played by Alvaro Morte) has always been a sort of loner but when he met Lisbon (Itziar Ituño) he couldn’t help but fall head over heels for her. The pair spent time living in Thailand after the first heist when Lisbon decided she couldn’t be without him, and they joined forces when the Bank of Spain heist took place. The Money Heist pair have been separated for some time now with Lisbon in police custody before she was rescued in the season four finale. Now with the heist amping up and Lisbon in the bank, could she play a part in The Professor’s fate?

The Professor has become more open throughout the Netflix series but he still struggles to let people in on his plans and feelings.

So far only Berlin (Pedro Alonso) and Lisbon seem to have been able to crack The Professor and become his closest confidantes.

Many fans are certain that The Professor and Lisbon have what it takes to go the distance but now, Alvaro appears to have poured cold water on their hopes hinting they will turn on one another.

Could Lisbon, fearing she will be killed and never see her daughter, give the police details of the heist in exchange for immunity or her life?

Speaking of their relationship, Alvaro noted it’s not as perfect as La Casa De Papel viewers may think.

The actor told Identity Magazine: “With Raquel, The Professor has always been alone; with no love, no relationships, no partners.

“Just planning by himself. And suddenly, he’s not alone.

“I remember talking to the scriptwriters and I was like, ‘Hey guys, we need a conflict here.

“We cannot be the perfect couple, I cannot be the perfect partner, because I simply don’t know how to do that.’”

The pair have certainly had some challenges including The Professor believing Lisbon was dead at the end of season three when he heard a gunshot.

While Alvaro acknowledges the pair love each other a lot, they have “their issues, problems and troubles”.

He added: “I think it’s interesting that he doesn’t know how to exactly manage that relationship.

“And that’s an evolution and a surprise as well. I think everybody thought that Raquel and The Professor will be the perfect couple but they’re not. They have their issues, problems and troubles.”

It comes after Alvaro hinted Lisbon may not survive the fifth series as he spoke about his character’s ending at the Chelsea Film Festival.

He explained: “I’m aware this comment will make me very unpopular.

“The Professor was a very weird guy, a very lonely guy and what happened with the band and finding love, it’s a really small chapter in his life.

“If we’re talking about the end of the character, I think at one point, I’d like to see him go back to that loneliness, that solitary life that he’s more used to and seems more comfortable in.”

  • Money Heist fans spot huge Stockholm secret that wasn’t addressed

After fans have watched The Professor open up and let Lisbon into his life, could he be responsible for her death?

Or after the intense pressure to make the Bank of Spain heist successful, will the pair decide they would be better off alone?

Lisbon is keen to be back with her daugheter and mother but if The Professor can’t make the reunion happen, she could abandon him and leave him to go into hiding alone.

Money Heist seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
