Narcos: How is Narcos connected to Narcos Mexico? Is Narcos finished?

Narcos: Mexico is back for its second run at some point in 2019 as Guadalajara Cartel drug lord Félix Gallardo (played by Diego Luna) returns to Netflix screens after killing DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) in the first series. Set in the same universe as the original Narcos series, many fans are still left wondering how exactly they’re connected. Here’s all you need to know.

Are Narcos Mexico and Narcos connected?

The two Netflix Original series are connected in some senses.

Both series are based on real-life events and take part in the same timeline.

Narcos: Mexico was even initially billed as Narcos season four before being rebranded.

Both Narcos series explore the dark underbelly of drug trading in the Americas during the 70s and 80s.

Narcos predominantly focused on Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and the Medellín Cartel.

Narcos: Mexico, however, explores Félix Gallardo and the beginnings of the Guadalajara Cartel.

Despite the change in location, the series are connected through some of their biggest names.

Wagner Moura reprised the role as Escobar in Narcos: Mexico, as did José María Yazpik as Amado Carrillo Fuentes and Alberto Ammann as Hélmer ‘Pacho’ Herrera.

Therefore, Narcos: Mexico could be seen as a fourth season for the original series due to the fact the two are intertwined.

Is Narcos finished?

For now, it appears the Narcos universe will continue to live on.

However, this will only be through Narcos: Mexico as a fourth season of the original series hasn’t been announced.

Netflix released every episode in season three of Narcos back in 2017.

Before that, each season was released on a yearly basis.

As it’s been over two years since Narcos was last on Netflix, it seems unlikely the original series will be back.

One thing that is for sure is Narcos: Mexico season two looks set to continue the series’ brutal and action-packed ways.

Despite Michael Peña leaving the role of Kiki, the series will welcome another big name for the new season.

True Detective and Argo star Scoot McNairy will take on the role of firm and determined DEA Agent Walt Breslin.

He was also unveiled as the first season’s narrator in the final episode.

Narcos: Mexico season 2 is released on Netflix later this year.
