Chloe (played by April Rose Pengilly) is currently one of the singletons living on Ramsay Street as her marriage to Pierce Greyson (Don Hany) came to an end last year on Neighbours and her numerous attempts to begin a relationship with Nicolette (Charlotte Chimes) were fruitless. At the moment, it doesn’t seem the Channel 5 soap star is looking for another romance and is rather concentrating on her career at Lassiters Hotel as Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) has been taking care of her husband, Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis). However, it has been announced a new character will arrive in the next few weeks and it going to set the cat amongst the pigeons but will the mystery woman be a new partner for Chloe?

Kiri Hua Durant (Gemma Bird Matheson) will be joining the cast in a regular role, which is very rare in terms of characters who are not yet established on the show.

Normally, newcomers are brought in under a guest capacity before their presence on Ramsay Street is made more permanent.

However, this could suggest her permanent residence means she is going to get entangled in the lives of some Ramsay Street favourites.

With Chloe being one of the only single people living in Erinsborough at the moment, it could be very likely she will end up crossing paths with the newcomer, who is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The beloved Brennan woman has always been very open about her sexuality and has had romances with both men and women and after so many failed attempts, Kiri could be the woman to sweep her off her feet.

Kiri will make her first appearance on the programme at the beginning of March and the actress who will play her, Gemma, has spoken out on joining the cast.

The newcomer explained: “She definitely finds herself in the middle of a lot of drama,” describing her alter-ego as “flirty,” but a “good girl at heart”.

“I felt honoured to be a part of such an iconic Australian show, but I was also excited by what this representation would mean for a lot of people, especially on such a mainstream show.

“I’m a big advocate for queer people playing queer roles. I’m excited about this representation for several reasons – I get to play myself, a queer Papua New Guinean Christian. That’s pretty monumental.

“The rate at which Neighbours films is unlike anything I’ve ever worked on. It sets you up with skills you just don’t learn anywhere else,” she continued.

I felt honoured

It has not been confirmed who Kiri will be interacting with as she arrives on Ramsay Street but with no hint towards Chloe and Nicolette reconnecting, this could be one potential person she interacts with.

As she is someone new in Erinsborough and radiating beauty, Chloe could find it hard to keep her eyes off her and vice versa.

The roadblock standing in Chloe’s way could be she doesn’t want to commit herself to another romance when she is in a good place and doesn’t want to take steps back with her life.

However, Kiri’s presence could make it harder for the beloved character to get her out of her head and this could make it harder to resist temptation.

Someone else who might notice Chloe is lingering over the newcomer would be Nicolette, who has decided to put her role as a mother before romance.

Nicolette has adopted quite a setup with David Tanaka (Takaya Honda) and Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) in recent months as they bring up their daughter Isla together.

Although she took the decision to end things with Chloe, as she didn’t feel ready to try again with their relationship, she could begin to feel a sense of jealousy.

She would struggle to see her former lover and Kiri getting closer but she would have to accept her time has come and gone.

This could give her the push to put herself back out there and try to move on with her life and her past with Chloe.

But as history has shown, romances always have their hurdles so will this be the one for Chloe or will her past cause too many complications for her new relationship?

The reason Chloe and Nicolette split up in the first place was because the hotel worker didn’t feel ready to commit to the relationship wholeheartedly.

Whereas Nicolette wanted children and marriage, Chloe didn’t as she had just got a divorce from her husband, Pierce.

Discussing her character’s thoughts at the time the romance was blossoming on air, the actress who plays Chloe, April, said: “I think she has rushed into things and it is because she needs security because she is afraid of facing her future alone and she tried to get with Nic the night her mother died.

“So yes, she has rushed into it all but she does love Nic and wants a future with her. It’s all just happening very quickly.”

Whether the storylines take a toll on her, April said: “To be honest it’s a big drainer.

“I love all the fun stuff and the comedy, and it does weigh on you when month after month you’re dealing with these heavy traumatic events.

“I relish the scenes where I get to be a bit lighter and have some fun; I love those storylines.

“It can be full-on but I’m ok with leaving my emotions at work and not bringing them home with me.

“I definitely feel a lot more creatively fulfilled when I get to do the comedic lighter scenes though,” she explained to so will a romance with Kiri give her the balance in her life she needs?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1:45pm and 6pm on Channel 5.
