Maya (played by Jessica Frances Dukes) made quite the splash when she walked into Marty Byrde’s (Jason Bateman) life in season three of Ozark. Introduced to the Netflix series as the FBI agent tasked with getting to the bottom of Marty and Wendy’s (Laura Linney) money laundering enterprise for the Navarro Cartel, it soon became clear Maya wasn’t someone to be messed with.
But heading into Ozark season four, Maya and Marty have built up quite the dysfunctional relationship.
Mainly down to the fact both are trying to play the other to get them on their respective side – Maya urging Marty to take a deal with the FBI and Marty convinced he can flip her for the cartel’s benefit.
However, there had been some doubt over Maya’s role in the fourth and final season due to the fact she was heavily pregnant and just weeks from her due date in the finale.
If she were to give birth just as she was making progress with Marty, she’d more than likely be replaced while on maternity leave.
Luckily for fans of Maya and Marty, however, it looks like the FBI agent will be back and thrown into the thick of things.
Actor Dukes took to Instagram recently to share her first snap from the set of Ozark.
Sat in her dressing room, the Ozark star confirmed she was back in filming and readying herself for, what’s bound to be, a hard-hitting moment with Marty.
“The pep talk before heading onto set!” Dukes began in her Instagram caption to her 6,461 followers.
The Maya star followed it up with a series of hashtags: “#YouKnowThis #YouGotThis #Ownit & #HaveABall #Period #TrailerPepTalks.”
And while hundreds of Ozark fans quickly weighed in with their excited messages, there was one former star who was similarly keen to see Maya back on screen.
Trevor Long, who played Cade Langmore prior to his season two death, reminisced: “How’d it go. Very familiar. Then the silence. Where it all begins.”
And clearly happy to be back, Dukes simply replied: “The process [love heart emoji].”

Similarly keen to see what lies ahead of Maya and Marty, one fan echoed: “Cannot wait to see this magic.”
“Yes you DO, Queen!!! [fire emoji],” weighed in a second follower.
So what can fans expect from Maya in season four? Well, as the third season drew to a close it was clear Marty’s plans had begun to irk her.
In an attempt to have Maya switch allegiances, Marty continued to undermine her to FBI bosses, supplying them with critical intel linked to rival Lagunas Cartel and other crimes.
However, Maya had turned down Marty’s intel as it was unethical to her doing her job and thought Marty was doing it to take the spotlight off him.
As a result, Maya was threatened with being pulled from the case and sent back to desk duty from the field.
Marty, again, just about managed to keep Maya close to him, but it looks like their rollercoaster working relationship is going to continue heading into season four.
Ozark seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix now.
