Power Book II came to a shocking finale which saw the loyalty of the Tejada family tested and taken to unforgivable extremes. With fans eagerly awaiting the third season, which is thankfully in production, a new cast member could become a huge problem for Tariq in the upcoming Starz instalment.
Power Book II: Ghost was the first spin-off in the growing Power franchise which followed the life of Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) after he killed his father.
Throughout the series, the youngster juggled his college education and dealt drugs as a ploy to make quick money.
However, his past was never too far away, as flashbacks, familiar faces and trauma reminded him of who he was and the lives he had ruined.
Towards the end of season two, Tariq was successfully able to reunite his sister Yasmine St Patrick (Amaya Carr) with his mother Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton).
While season one focused on getting Tasha out of jail, she wasn’t seen until the finale in season two as she had gone into witness protection.
Yasmine was up for adoption and although he tried, Tariq wasn’t able to take her in, but thankfully the two reunited.
Despite his happy ending, it looks as though the teenager could be in for some trouble when the show returns.
Deadline recently reported the series had cast a number of new characters to join the show and one, in particular, could clash with Tariq.
Describing Kyle Vincent Terry’s character Obi, the publication wrote: “Terry will portray Obi, a young man schooled in Britain who knows his way around a gun, but is equally comfortable in a boardroom.”
Much like Tariq, it’s hinted Obi could be juggling two different lives, he could have some history with crime to know his way around a gun.
But could also be an expert in business to be comfortable in the boardroom, with this much similarity, the two could easily clash upon meeting.
This previously happened in the original series of Power between Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) and James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (Omari Hardwick).
Although the two were up against each other to become a governor in New York, they both wanted political power and had a criminal history which they often dipped into when necessary.
Obi and Tariq could clash the same way when it comes to business and viewers know Tariq also knows his way around a gun very well.
At the end of season two, Tariq ended with pretty much no enemies, so showrunners could easily shake things up for the teenager.
However, Obi isn’t the only newcomer joining the Power universe through Power Book II.
Deadline also reported Gbenga Akinnagbe and Caroline Chikezie would also be joining the cast of season three.
They stated: “Akinnagbe will play Ron Samuel Jenkins aka RSJ, a Howard University and Harvard Business School alum who grew up working class and built his own legitimate empire that has firmly entrenched him among the business elite.
“Chikezie is Noma, a worldly and powerful woman with a regal presence who has built her wealth with an illicit global empire and is not afraid to protect it by any means necessary.”
Fans will have to wait until the premiere to see how the newcomers will be welcomed to New York and if Obi will prove to be an enemy for Tariq.
Power Book II: Ghost is available on Starz in the USA and in on Starzplay in the UK.
