Production on Queen of the South season five is still underway, and fans already can’t wait for the dangerous escapades of drug mogul Teresa Mendoza to continue. Lead actress Alice Braga recently spilled some secrets about how the new series will kick off after last year’s stunning cliffhanger on the USA Network and Netflix.
Brazilian star of Queen of the South Alice Braga has given some rare insight into the crime drama’s upcoming fifth season.
Fans of the series are still recouping from Teresa’s devastating journey in season four, which came to a dramatic close last year.
After moving her operation’s to New Orleans, the powerful drug runner faced off against a new rival, Judge Lafayette (played David Andrews).
Their violent feud threatened to lay waste to Teresa’s operations on the streets of the Big Easy, and culminated in the tragic death of her godson, Tony Parra (Julian Silva).
In amongst the chaos, however, most fans were more concerned about what James Valdez’ (Peter Gadiot) sudden return could mean for the upcoming season.
During a conversation with Digital Spy, Alice Braga hinted there’s a big storm coming for the eponymous queen when the series finally returns.
Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but Braga issued a warning for her tough on-screen persona for when the premiere hits screens in 2021.
The Queen of the South lead said: “I cannot tease much. They’re going to kill me if I do!”
“But definitely, what I can say is that Teresa’s going to get in a lot of trouble. She’s becoming the boss.”
Unfortunately, Braga was unable to get into specifics, although there are plenty of rumours flying around about the show’s highly anticipated return.
With James Valdez back in the fold, some fans believe his return could signal the arrival of Teresa’s old enemies from the first three seasons.
While the Vargas family was crippled after the death of Don Epifaño, Teresa’s former employer Camila Vargas (Verónica Falcón) is still at large and could be out for blood.

Alternatively, James’ nasty gunshot wound has indicated to some fans he could be on the run from Devon Finch (Jamie Hector) and the CIA.
Filming is still underway in New Orleans, so it’s hoped a helpful synopsis and even a new trailer will clear up some of season five’s biggest mysteries soon.
In the meantime, Alice Braga’s comments have revealed Teresa’s inevitable downfall could be on the horizon in season five.
She continued: “She already has the business, but a lot’s going to happen in season five because she got to that point where she really is a powerful woman, like everybody thought that she would be.”
The very first episode of Queen of the South featured a prophetic flashforward, in which Teresa appeared to be shot dead by an unknown rival.
As the influential drug runner embraces her dark alter-ego, Teresa could be closer than ever to fulfilling her destiny revealed at the very start of the series.
All will soon be revealed, as Braga expects the next instalment will be finished by the end of the year, meaning a spring or summer release in 2021 could be in sight.
Queen of the South season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
