Wedding fever is about to hit Coronation Street as loved up Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) prepares to marry her groom (Adam Barlow) – and seeing them happy and his ex moving on prompts an irritated Gary Windass (Mikey North) to set a date with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon). But is this just a means of moving on from Sarah and proving a point to Adam – or is it genuinely love?
Meanwhile, Sarah is worried on the morning of her wedding that her daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon) won’t turn up as they have previously been rowing about her relationship with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).
Bethany has fallen head over heels in love with Daniel but it’s plain for Sarah – and almost everyone – to see that he is still not over his lost wife Sinead and that Bethany is acting as a replacement to help him bottle his grief.
After a spat, Sarah worries about going ahead with the wedding without Bethany by her side but they eventually manage to restore piece and Adam watches his bride adoringly as she stands by his side. The pair exchange vows and there is joy all round as they are married.
However, as they prepare to go on honeymoon, Adam can’t resist having another dig at arch enemy Gary. After duping Ali Neeson (James Burrows) into admitting his one night stand with Maria recently, Adam takes great pleasure in goading a fuming Gary before he leaves.
Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) denies anything is going on between Ali and Maria when he confronts him but it’s clear Gary is not convinced – and he calls in a favour from Sharon, the former henchwoman of Rick Neelan.
Meanwhile, Bethany and Sarah have unfinished business. As Bethany prepares to leave Weatherfield with Daniel for a new start in London, Sarah’s point is proven when Daniel hastily proposes to Bethany with Sinead’s wedding ring.
Will Bethany see that Sarah has been right all along? And can mother and daughter part on good terms?
