Spoilers: Death shock for Audrey amid huge bombshell in Coronation Street

Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) has recently had a brush with death after the motorbike in the Coronation Street barbers’ shop fell on her, leading to her suffering from a ruptured spleen.

After she’s discharged from hospital, this near-death experience seems to be playing on her mind and she starts to make plans for what’s going to happen to her property and cash when she really does die.

She tells the Platts that she’s rewriting her will, which is a cue for David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) to go into full gran-pleasing mode as they both fuss over her and make sure she leaves a generous slice of her legacy to them.

Audrey’s fully aware of what her money-hungry family members are up to, and she’s equally convinced that, although she loves them, she doesn’t quite trust them with her cash. She’s particularly furious with David who has tried to get power of attorney over her money.

In the midst of all this she concludes that the one person in her family that she genuinely trusts is her son Stephen (Todd Boyce), newly arrived back in Weatherfield. Gathering all her family for a meeting in the Bistro, she makes an announcement.

She says that she loves them all and they’ll all be remembered in her will, but everything is going to be held in trust by Stephen. Stephen announces that he’s going to be moving in with Audrey to look after her, and David is horrified at the amount of control he suddenly has over Audrey – and her money.
