There are big choices to be made in tonight’s Casualty by more than one member of the ED staff, as Ethan faces a massive decision about his future and Jacob considers how to move on from past trauma.
The episode opens with Jacob (Charles Venn) speaking to a domestic abuse support group. In 2021 he was in a relationship with colleague Tina (Adele James), whose behaviour towards him was manipulative and controlling and escalated into violence.
Tina was finally arrested after trapping a dangerously ill patient in the back of an ambulance in an effort to get Jacob to pledge his undying love to her. She lashed out at Iain (Michael Stevenson) and injured him when he attempted to intervene and was arrested.
’If you don’t find a way to deal with the past, those scars, it’s only going to end up destroying your future,’ Jacob tells the support group, and his advice is immediately tested when Bron (Connor Calland), another member of the group, tells him he’s starting a new relationship. But then Bron arrives injured in the ED. What’s happened?
And when Jacob’s next patient turns out to be an old friend, could Jacob be ready to move on from his troubled past and risk a new relationship?
Meanwhile Ethan (George Rainsford) and Stevie (Elinor Lawless) are nervous about their interviews for the Jac Naylor award, knowing that winning the award would be a massive boost for their career and would mean getting to travel all over the world.
Ethan has a lot to think about, because if he wins the award it’ll mean spending months away from his son Bodhi – something that’s brought home to him when he video calls with Bodhi and his grandparents at the start of the day and is disturbed when Bodhi calls his grandfather ‘Daddy.’
We know that this is Ethan’s final episode, but will he be leaving as the proud recipient of the Jac Naylor award, or will something else happen to change his future entirely?
Of course Stevie could also win the award, and Marcus (Adam Sina) puts in another word of recommendation with the head of the interview panel. But is Marcus really on Stevie’s side?
Marcus wants him to forget about it and focus on his work in the ED, but when new evidence comes to light Dylan realises that the problem may extend further than the care home itself – and he won’t rest until he finds out what’s going on.
