Additionally, executive producer Alex Kurtzman teases during the show’s panel at SDCC 2019 that the new season will honor the canon by bringing things fans which fans will recognize as well as new things.
AceShowbiz -“Star Trek: Discovery” treated fans to a lot of news during its panel at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. During “Star Trek” panel on Saturday, July 19 in Hall H, the CBS All Access series revealed that newcomer David Ajala (“Supergirl“) had joined the cast for the upcoming third season.
Ajala is set to take on the role of Cleveland “Book” Booker. The character is described as “smart and capable” with “a natural charisma and devil-may-care attitude that tends to get him into trouble as often as it gets him out.”
Additionally, “Star Trek: Discovery” unveiled a slew of first-look photos which featured Ajala’s Book. In one of the pics, he is seen walking through in what seems like a crater along with Sonequa Martin-Green‘s Commander Michael Burnham. Another photo, meanwhile, sees Burnham lying on the ground in her gear.
The third season of “Star Trek: Discovery” is promised to be different from any other Trek series ever as it will be set further in the future as it jumped 900 years in the future in its shocking season 2’s finale. However, executive producer Alex Kurtzman revealed that it would honor the canon by bringing things which fans would recognize as well as new things. “Don’t worry,” he said. “It’s still ‘Star Trek’ and it will always be ‘Star Trek’ the way Gene Roddenberry wanted it.”
Meanwhile, Martin-Green teased that at the start of the season, instead of landing on the safe haven world of Terralysium like they planned, she and Book would ended up in somewhere else which none of them was familiar with. Ajala further added that “there are big problems on the other side of that wormhole.”
Also starring Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgious, Doug Jones as Commander Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Cmdr Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Ensign Sylvia Tilly and Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber, “Star Trek: Discovery” is expected to premiere in 2020. The first two season of the series are available to stream now on CBS All Access.
