Strictly’s unexpected bottom two result infuriates fans as Mike Bushell leaves

Strictly Come Dancing aired a surprise result ahead of the dance-off on Sunday night, as Michelle Visage was confirmed to be in the bottom two – while it was Mike Bushell who left the show.

Despite earning praise and high scores from the judges, Michelle and dance partner Giovanni Pernice were confirmed to be facing the dance-off leaving fans stunned.

They were up against Mike and his dance partner Katya Jones, who have already been in the dance-off three previous times.

Both pairings were tasked with dancing again for the judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Bruno Tonioli and Head Judge Shirley Ballas, before their verdicts were given.

As both performances came to an end, host Tess Daly handed over to the panel who voted unanimously.

All four judges decided to save Michelle and partner Giovanni, sending Mike and Katya home.

The judges agreed that both couples performed better than ever before, but it was Mike's turn to leave the show.

Speaking of his exit, Mike told Tess: "I have had the most amazing 9 or 10 weeks since we started training. I have lost a stone and half. I’m a guy in his 50s, I’m mentally sharper, I feel able to deal with pressured situations – thanks to the dance-offs!

"It has changed me completely and honestly I’m not going to stop dancing. My wife Emily has supported me all the way through and my daughters. My dad’s going to take up ballroom dancing and my mum has started Zumba – I want to thank all my family and the judges."

He continued: "I have all the comments framed around the house. Every moment has been an absolute honour and a joy. I didn’t think I’d get this far so I have already booked a hotel in Blackpool, so I’m still coming along.

"This amazing teacher, Katya, I can’t tell you the dedication that she puts in. She’d make the greatest sporting coach ever, she makes you believe that anything is possible.

"She hasn’t taken it easy on me. We’ve had some difficult routines and I can’t believe the miracles you’ve performed. There’s so many memories."

While viewers weren't that surprised by the result, they were shocked Michelle was even in the bottom two in the first place.

One viewer said on Twitter : "Michelle in the bottom two? How in the world??"

Another agreed: "Correct decision tonight. Although I can’t understand why Michelle was in the dance off at all."

A third added: "Why was Michelle in the dance off seriously wtf people, and finally Mike went it’s about time!"

Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday at 7:05pm for the Blackpool special on BBC One, with the results show on Sunday at 7:15pm.
