The Apprentice returns to the BBC after two year hiatus

Two years after the last series aired, The Apprentice is set to return to the BBC in the new year.

Lord Sugar’s hit reality TV show follows a group of entrepreneurs through weekly business tasks as they compete to be his next business partner.

The most recent series saw Carina Lepore bag the £250,000 investment with her baking business, after she won the show in 2019.

The subsequent series that were planned for 2020 and 2021 were both postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic to protect the wellbeing and health of everyone involved in the show.

On Thursday, The Apprentice took to their social media to announce the exciting news that the show would return in January 2022.

Karen Brady and Claude Littner will also appear on the show alongside the renowned businessman to act as his aids throughout the challenges and report back on the progress of each contestant.

The BBC show tweeted: “We’re heading back to the boardroom this January!

“@Lord_Sugar’s getting his firing finger ready…

The programme often sees the entrepreneurs take part in challenges abroad in one or two episodes of the show.

However, this was not a possibility for the upcoming series due to the ongoing travel restrictions in place to manage the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

A source told The Sun : “This is another hurdle the producers have had to jump as Covid-related restrictions are still in place.

“Although lockdown in Britain is easing, that’s not the case in other countries. It’s a real headache.”

Lord Alan Sugar had teased the show’s return earlier in the year as he said: ‘I think you’ll see it in the early part of next year, in fact that’s the plan.

‘If things go well, and there’s no outbreaks or third waves, we’re planning to start recording later this year and it should be just after Christmas that they’ll start it again.’

From Thursday 6 January a new episode will be released every week of the business-based show. For now, fans can enjoy the latest series of The Apprentice on BBC iPlayer and a six-part compilation of the best bits from the past series.
