The Bay fans were excited when the Morecambe-set drama returned for a third series last month on ITV. This time around, there was a new family liaison officer in town after DS Lisa Armstrong (played by Morven Christie) left at the end of the second season. But there hasn’t been too much time for DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) to get her bearings as a new case was quickly underway.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Bay.
Jenn became the family liaison officer for the Rahman family after the body of aspiring boxer Saif was discovered on the beach.
With his family distraught, it was up to Jenn to try and console them, all the while investigating what really happened to Saif.
As well as looking at all of the possible suspects, Jenn has had family troubles to contend with after moving herself and her children into the home of her boyfriend Chris (Barry Sloane) and his daughter Erin (Georgia Scholes).
So she really has had a lot on her plate in season three and it has since been revealed there will be plenty more to come.
The Bay season three concluded on Wednesday, February 16, on ITV.
To coincide with the series’ grand finale, the channel announced the drama has been renewed with a fourth season on the way.
There has been no indication of a return date for The Bay just yet but given how the past two series have started in January, this could be the case once again with season four.
Filming is set to begin later this year with further casting news to be announced.
ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill said: “I’m delighted that we will be returning to Morecambe for another series of The Bay.
“Marsha Thomason delivered a brilliant performance as DS Jenn Townsend, and it will be exciting to see where Daragh takes her character in series four.
“Thanks to everyone at Tall Story Pictures for creating and continuing to deliver such a distinctive series.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield said: “We are delighted at how The Bay audiences have taken to new FLO, DS Jenn Townsend, played by the brilliant Marsha Thomason and how Jenn’s arrival and her personal storyline has breathed new energy into the show.
“Together with Daragh (Carville) and all our amazing cast and crew, we can’t wait to get going on the new series.“

Having made her big debut in season three, actress Thomason is expected to return for series four.
As she has created herself a new family unit in Morecambe, actors Sloane and Georgia Scholes should be returning as well as Jenn’s children Conor (David Carpenter) and Maddie (Emma Haynes).
Another key member of The Bay cast is actor Daniel Ryan as DI Tony Manning who has been a staple from the very beginning.
While these characters should be back for the new episodes, as ever, there will be a new family at the centre of the series four investigation.
In The Bay season three finale, Jenn asked for Erin’s help in identifying who she thought should have been at Saif’s funeral.
Instead, she saw Kyle (Joel Phillimore) the brother of Saif’s girlfriend who she knew didn’t like him.
After a chase, Jenn had Kyle arrested who then admitted to murdering the youngster during a fight outside the gym.
The Bay is available to watch on ITV Hub.
