The Chestnut Man is perfect for fans of Nordic thrillers as the creator of The Killing is behind it. Netflix have been producing hit Scandinavian dramas for years, with this latest show set to be the next binge-watched success. Express.co.uk has all the details on the cast of the drama.

Who is in the cast of The Chestnut Man?

Naia Thulin – Danica Curcic

Co-lead and young detective of the series, Naia Thulin is played by Danica Curcic.

Viewers may recognise Curcic from shows such as Equinox, The Seclusion Dogma and Warrior.

Born in Serbia, Curcic has been acting in both film and television for over a decade and is no stranger to Scandinavian dramas.

Her first big break was in 2013’s The Bridge, the hit detective thriller, though Curcic only played a secondary role in the show.

Mark Hess – Mikkel Boe Folsgaard

The other co-lead and detective partner to Naia, Mark Hess is played by Mikkel Boe Folsgaard.

Known primarily for The Rain and The Legacy, Folsgaard has mostly worked in film up until this point.

Folsgaard recently shared the trailer for the series on his Instagram, cryptically captioning it: “Autumn is here…”

He also shared an image of himself in character, looking bloodied and beaten, a sign of the brutal times to come in the show.

Steen Hartung – Esben Dalgaard Andersen

Esben Dalgaard Andersen plays Steen Hartung, a father of one of the missing daughters in the show.

How his role plays into the show remains to be seen, though in the trailer he is seen saying: “I know she is out there. I can feel her.”

Andersen is known for several successful Scandinavian shows including Skyldig II, Sunday, Follow the Money and The Team.

The star will be introduced to a new wave of international viewers due to his inclusion in the Netflix series.

What is The Chestnut Man about?

Netflix is betting big on The Chestnut Man, bringing together a well-established team to create the series.

From the directors of The Killing and The Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar, Mikkel Serup and Kasper Barfoed respectively, The Chestnut Man looks to have a dark and foreboding atmosphere.

Earlier this month, Netflix dropped the first trailer for the show, giving viewers an idea of what to expect from the six-part series.

Described as “a character-driven psychological thriller” in the official synopsis, the show follows two detectives on the hunt for a mysterious killer.

The series will open with a woman’s body being discovered in a playground, with one hand missing and accompanied by a small doll made of chestnuts.

Two detectives are assigned to the case and soon discover it is linked to more killings, spring boarding a disturbing series of events.

This series is actually based on a novel by author Soren Sveistrup, which shares the same name as the show.

Netflix brought on board Dorte Warnoe Hogh and David Sandreuter to adapt the novel, known for Ben and Limbo respectively.

The Chestnut Man premieres exclusively on Netflix from September 29.
