The Good Doctor recently brought its third season to an end on ABC with a traumatic earthquake storyline. However, there was a bright moment for main character Dr Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) in the finale when he and Lea Dilallo (Paige Spara) finally got together – but will this last?
Will Lea and Shaun break up in the new series?
Fans will remember how in the season finale of The Good Doctor season three, Lea and Shaun finally confessed their feelings.
After dealing with a life-threatening scenario, Lea embraced Shaun and admitted she was in love with him.
When he emerged from the destroyed brewery he was trapped in, Lea was outside waiting for him.
In a romantic moment, she came up to him and told him “You make me more.”

This all came after Shaun and Lea had a difficult season three when Shaun’s relationship with Carly Lever (Jasika Nicole) ended over his feelings for Lea.
Then when Shaun told Lea how she really felt, she reacted very badly and told him she just wanted to be friends.
Now heading into season four of the show, fans will be eager to know whether their romance will last or more drama is on its way.
Showrunner David Shore recently revealed a bit more about what to expect from the pair in the fourth outing.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly he said: “We explored a bunch of different choices as things went along.
“I really liked his relationship with Carly, we all did. Jasika Nicole was so great.
But Paige is so great and Lea’s so great, and this felt right at the beginning and right at the end.
“It feels like this is where it should be, and we’ll explore that relationship next year as well.”

However, he did also hint to TV Line how it might not last forever as he explained what they wanted from her character.
He added: “We wanted them together. Whether it will last is another question, but it felt right from the very beginning.
“Given what we had leading up to this, I didn’t want it to just be that he does something to her that proves she owes him or something. I didn’t want it to be that.
“It [needed] to be something that showed her, in very extreme circumstances, exactly who he is.
“She’s seen him, she’s dealt with him, she’s been friends with him, but I wanted her to see that she was wrong.”
However, a number of fans are unhappy about the pairing, taking to Reddit to voice their opinions.
User Jeljel8989 wrote: “I was all set for my boy Shaun to finally move on and realise he doesn’t need Lea. Then we get that…”
Fan Tannh added: “I hate that Shaun and Lea got together after she was adamant she didn’t want the relationship. Horrible optics there.”

While a third named SupaSlide wrote: “Unless the next season starts with Lea and Shaun breaking up, or least exploring why their relationship is garbage, I am done.”
However, some fans do like the pairing and are excited to see it continue.
User fayryover posted: “I like Leah and I think that subplot makes complete sense.
“It’s normal to feel scared and say you don’t want a relationship but when you’re together in a high adrenaline moment to do a 180 on that decision.”
What’s next for Shaun and Lea will be revealed when season four of the show drops later this year.
The Good Doctor season 4 is expected to be released later in 2020.
