BBC presenter Jermaine Jenas has caused a stir on social media after admitting on air that he doesn't know who famous BBC Breakfast weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood is.
Whilst presenting The One Show on Wednesday evening (26 May), the former football star confessed that he had no clue who the national treasure weather forecaster is.
At the start of the show, regular hosts Jermaine and his co-star Alex Jones were introducing the show's line-up when they started bantering about the weather.
Playfully jibing at his co-host, Jermaine said: "Didn't I tell you that the sun was going to come back?.
Alex Jones then jokingly replied, sarcastically saying: "You are basically Carol Kirkwood", which caused Jermaine to start laughing before admitting "I haven't got a clue who that is".
Alex, who was up in arms at what she'd just heard from her co-star, waved her hands in contempt and cried out: "Hang on, stop!" after viewers could hear laughter coming from the studio.
A flustered Jermaine had begun saying: "Give us a little clue…" before had Alex cut him off in exasperation.
Alex explained: "Carol is a legend, isn't she? She's a legend".
Continuing, Alex then told an embarrassed Jermaine that she would introduce him to his BBC colleague – but it seems he might have to do his homework first!
Carol Kirkwood, 58, is a BBC Weather presenter who is trained by the MET Office and presents BBC Breakfast and Victoria Derbyshire.
In 2015, the rain-forecasting star also appeared on series 13 of Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 – finishing in 10th place.
And unfortunately for Jermaine, his on-air gaffe didn't stop there because his confession left BBC viewers flabbergasted that he didn't know the famous weather forecaster, with many flocking to social media to air their confusion and disappointment.
Taking to Twitter, one shocked user complained directly to the BBC, saying: "@BBCTheOneShow How does Jermaine Jenas not know who Carol Kirkwood is?! For the love of weather, Aleex Jones get him educated please !!!".
A second stunned viewer joined in writing: "Oh my days still lifting my jaw off the ground @BBCTheOneShow "I don't know who Carol Kirkwood is go and sit in the corner, immediately Jermaine" before attaching a cry-laughing emoji on the end.
A third, who was also quick to see the funny side of the blooper, tweeted: "@BBCTheOneShow quote of the evening…… who is Carol Kirkwood????? really !! Lol" whilst adding a laughing-face emoji.
And a fourth Carol Kirkwood fan slammed Jermaine, penning: "Cannot believe Jermaine Jenas doesn't know who living legend national treasure Carol Kirkwood is".
A fifth even suggested to The One Show's official Twitter that they should now invite Carol onto the show, pledging: "You must now invite Carol Kirkwood onto the show in order to redeem yourselves. And grovel. Profusely."
