Why 'Dexter: New Blood' Fans Are Questioning Harrison's Story About Hannah

We’ve known for months that Hannah McKay wouldn’t appear in the Dexter revival, but it was unclear how the show intended to deal with her absence. Fans got the answer on Sunday, Nov. 14, in Dexter: New Blood Episode 2, “Storm of F***,” when Harrison reveals Hannah’s fate to his father. But many wonder if that’s the whole truth.

Hannah McKay’s fate has been revealed

In the episode, Harrison sits down with Dexter Morgan and reflects on his earlier years. Growing up, he says, he was always told that Dexter had died during Hurricane Laura. He was kept in the dark about what really happened to him until three years ago, when Hannah died of pancreatic cancer.

After her death, Harrison discovered a letter from Dexter revealing he’d survived and, as a result, set out to find him. After being placed in foster care in Miami, he began researching his father and subsequently tracked him from Florida to Oregon. He had trouble determining his whereabouts from there, but was eventually able to connect Dexter to Iron Lake, after spotting him in a photo shared online by a friend.

Fans react to Hannah’s fate

Viewers were glad to get closure over Hannah, but many aren’t so sure about Harrison’s story. Writing on websites such as Reddit, some feel something is off with him and wonder if he’s not telling the full truth.

“Surprised Hannah never reached out to Dexter if she was dying of cancer,” read one Reddit comment. “I think Harrison is holding back more of the story of her death. Much like how Dexter is holding out on his meaning of dark tendencies.”

Another user agreed, wondering if Harrison was even responsible for her death in some way. “When Harrison was talking about how angry he got when he read Dexter’s letter, part of me wondered if he killed her as opposed to her actually dying of cancer,” the comment read.

“I’m thinking Harrison isn’t telling the whole truth,” a third person said. “If they decide to go down the path of Harrison inheriting Dexters darkness, I can definitely see him having killed Hannah when he found out she lied about Dexter being dead. I think there will be something incriminating in his bag/drawing book.”

“It seems like Harrison had something to do with Hannahs death,” commented another. “I really can’t see any other reason why the producers would bring him back into the show for any other reason besides him inheriting some form of the dark passenger.”

Only time will tell if Harrison has those dark tendencies. But with a serial killer for a father and a deadly botanist as his step mom, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise.

Watch ‘Dexter: New Blood’ on Sundays

Those interested in watching the show can catch it at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays. Showtime has not yet revealed if there will be more episodes beyond the 10 that have been promised. But when asked if the revival would definitely be the end of Dexter Morgan’s story, Michael C. Hall, who plays the killer, couldn’t answer definitively.

“I’m reluctant to say ‘definitely’, you know?” he told NME. “Let’s see. What’s plain now is that there’s 10 new episodes.”
