Presenter Monty Don announced he would be stepping back from Gardeners’ World to focus on another project. Fans of the BBC series were sad to hear he would not be on screens for a while. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about where he is and who has replaced him.

Where is Monty Don?

Monty Don recently announced he would be taking a break from the gardening show, which airs on BBC Two.

The green-fingered presenter, 65, said he would be focussing on a project he was forced to postpone during the coronavirus pandemic.

He took to Twitter to tell fans about his next project, revealing he will be recording his audiobook, after it had been delayed for a year.

He said: “Having been delayed by a year due to Covid I am off today (and for the next four days) to a studio to read ‘My Garden World’ as an audio book.”

Gardeners’ World is filmed a week in advance, meaning that he will be missing in the May 7 episode.

Who has replaced Monty Don?

Adam Frost will be leading the series in Monty’s absence, and a synopsis for the upcoming episode has been given.

The synopsis said: “In Adam Frost’s garden, he gives his tips on lawn repair, grows some unusual vegetables and plants a seasonal container. Meanwhile, Advolly Richmond brings us up to date in her history of lawns.”

Frost is a garden and landscape designer, as well as a presenter who has previously worked on Gardeners’ World.

He is known for his stunning displays at the Chelsea Flower Show.

He has been running online courses, giving gardening fanatics some useful tips.

Meanwhile, Monty has been keeping fans up to date with his new venture on Twitter, and things seem to be going well.

He said: “My Garden World audio book now all read and recorded and will be available on July 1st.”

Fans responded with kind words, with one saying: “I pre-ordered and can’t wait, you are always a joy to listen to.”

Another said: “Your voice is so easy to listen to, I bet it will be great!”

The series provides the perfect sense of escapism for fans who want nothing more than to get outside in the fresh air.

The show has been a saviour for many throughout lockdown, particularly those who may not have big open spaces to work with.

He may not be a part of the series for the time being, but he has continued to provide plenty of Instagram updates.

He recently gave fans a virtual tour of the Jewel Garden, and it is now bursting with colour.

With summer just around the corner, fans are excited to see what he will be working on in the garden.

One fan commented: “I love all of your beautiful trellises!! So charming”.

Viewers continued to express their sadness at the fact he will not appear in the upcoming episode.

One said: “Draped the garden in black on learning Monty Don is taking a break from Gardeners World. He brought me back to gardening after wandering in the desert for 40 years!”

Monty has already released a number of books on gardening, with the most recent being My Garden World: The Natural Year.

Gardeners’ World airs on Fridays on BBC Two.
