Things have been getting steadily worse for Gary Windass (Mikey North) in Coronation Street’s week-long stretch of episodes.
After attempting to escape the country, he’s been captured and held hostage by evil Rick Neelan (Greg Wood), leaving viewers wondering whether he’ll make it out of the predicament alive.
And he’s also left viewers wondering if he was to blame for the factory roof collapse which claimed the life of Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia), following a phone call to Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) on Wednesday night which left them hanging as he appeared to be about to confess something.
The call saw him apologise to Sarah for everything and declare his love, which has given rise to another question – namely are the pair about to get back together?
Here’s what you need to know…
Will Gary Windass get back together with Sarah Platt?
Gary and Sarah’s relationship has been through tempestuous times in the past.
The pair originally grew close after Gary helped Sarah’s daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon) against school bullies and with her exam pressure, and became a couple after he saved Lily Platt (Brooke Malonie) from being hit by David (Jack P Shepherd)’s car.
Their relationship survived Gary getting Nicola Rubinstein pregnant with his son Zack, as well as a storyline in which he was believed to have died in Ukraine.
Recent storylines have seen their relationship crumble as he gets in deeper with Rick, which has also put her in danger – but now he’s confessed his love for her, could the pair reconcile?
Well the bad news for Gary is that it doesn’t look like it, since we know that Sarah is set for a spot of summer romance with the returning Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
As exclusively revealed by metro.co.uk earlier this month, Adam is set to bring the fun and lightness back to Sarah’s life, with actress Tina O’Brien telling us:‘I am really enjoying playing this new lighter side of Sarah.
‘Adam brings out a side of her personality that has been buried for a while. Sarah is definitely more cheeky and so much more flirty with Adam. It’s like she is young again and she is having that experience of feeling wanted.’
That doesn’t mean Gary isn’t going down without a fight though, as Tina hinted that we can expect a bit of a love triangle when the rivalry between Gary and Adam rears its head.
‘I love the dynamic between Gary and Adam. There’s great friction and Sarah is in the middle of it all.
‘Although she doesn’t want to be with Gary she still cares about him and doesn’t want to see him hurt. Adam is paying her attention and saying nice things to her and she can’t deny that he makes her happy even if that upsets Gary.’
Exciting times, people.
Coronation Street airs every night this week at 9pm between Britain’s Got Talent’s semi-finals and results shows.
